East County doesn't have explicitly-defined boundaries, but typically includes the 4 incorporated cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Santee. There are also 17 unincorporated cities further to the north, east, and south. The benefits of more rural living allow you to enjoy plenty of outdoor activities in the desert, chaparral, mountains, and lakes. There are also farms, vineyards, cider houses, and famous pie shops in small towns where you can spend a day exploring.

Further east, Ramona & Julian are more sprawling rural living that have roots from the California gold rush in the early 1800s. They embody  small-town charm with old frontier town aesthetic, shops, cider/wineries, great hiking, and famous apple pie.

These areas tend to be some of the most affordable areas in San Diego County, where you can get more house and land for your money.
